Vinton – Martha J. Davis, age 81, died Friday evening, March 31, 2006 at Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, March 5, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. David Gates officiating. At her request her body was cremated and private Committal Services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
Martha was born Mary 9, 1925 at Vinton to Charles and Bernice (Willford) Garwood and she graduated from the Shellsburg High School. On September 5, 1944 she married Glenn "Jiggs" Davis at Vinton. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2004.
Martha was a member of the First Christian Church. An excellent cook, Martha loved fishing, and Humming Birds and enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her son, David (Vianna) Davis of Gilbert, AZ; her daughter Christine (Dennis) Sharp of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; three step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary (Glenn) Anderson of Vinton; her brother, Jack (Viroqua) Garwood of Vinton; her sisters-in-law, Blanch Garwood of Cedar Rapids, and Dwyn Garwood of Vinton; her aunt, Alice Kramer of Urbana; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, her brothers, Bert and Dale Garwood and her step-granddaughter, Shauna Sharp preceded her in death.
Her children wish to express their special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Virginia Gay Hospital and to Martha's family and friends for the loving care they have given to her.
