Major League Baseball Player. He was a left-handed pitcher for twelve seasons (1938, 1944 to 1954) with the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a member of three National League Pennant-winning teams (1949, 1952 to 1953 Dodgers) and appeared in 5 career total World Series games, with a 2 and 1 record while posting a 2.54 ERA in 28 innings.
