Mr. Hughes was born in Owen County April 14, 1865, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah Ann Hale Hughes.
Augustus was survived by his wife, Flora Works Hughes; two daughters, Loretta Hughes Fields (Moses Fields) and Mrs. Orlie Dunn, three sons, Roy D. Hughes of Cincinnati, OH, Ernest G. Hughes of Harrison CO, KY, and Lester Hughes of Bethel Ohio, as well as a brother and sister, Rebecca Ann Hughes Works (Jefferson Davis, who was also the brother of Augustus' wife, Flora) and Silas P. Hughes.
Mr. Hughes was predeceased by the following siblings: John William Hughes; Katherine 'Katie' Hughes Davis (J. C. B.); Cynthia 'Cynthie' T. Hughes Morgan (Ben) Fogle (Jasper); Nancy Ellen 'Nannie' Hughes Works (James Crawford); Mary Frances 'Frankie' Hughes Ireland (Asa William); George Samuel Hughes; and Granville Hughes.
Augustus was a member of the Mt. Hope Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday, April 3, 1936. Pallbearers were Garrett Forsythe, Clyde Haley, Carl Taylor, Paula Fields, Freemont Floyd Ireland, and Chas. Brooken.
