Lt. Col. Jimmie Giles U.S. Army (Retired)

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services honoring the life of Lt. Col. Jimmie Giles, Retired, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Greg Hunt. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue with full military rites provided by the Fort Polk Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Jimmie was born December 12, 1922 in Shreveport, LA and passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center/ LifeCare. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shreveport. Jimmie was a past District Governor of the Lions Club. He was a life member of the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation, Lions Club Book of Golden Deeds, lifetime member of Louisiana Lions Club League for Crippled Children and a recipient of the Lions Club International Foundation "Melvin Jones Fellow" award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services. He was also awarded "Volunteer of the Year" in 1989 with the BAFB Retired Officers Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Family and friends will miss him dearly.

His first wife, Betty Jean Giles, parents, and sister, Helen Graham, preceded Jimmie in death. Survivors are his wife, Barbara Pringle Giles of Shreveport, LA; son, Robert Giles and wife, Rhonda of Lafayette, LA; daughters, Meta Baxter and husband, Tommy of Anchorage, AK, Betty Williams and life partner, Julie of Orlando, FL and Corrie Love and husband, Bruce of Roanoke, VA; sister, Janie McDearmont, and brother, Jack Giles and wife, Macel all of Shreveport, LA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Jimmie, as pallbearers will be the North Shreveport Lions Club and past District Governors of Lions International.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Timothy Nicholls and staff and the Administrator and staff of W-K Medical Center/LifeCare for the professional and loving care shown to Jimmie.
