Martha Lee Phillips, formerly Martha Douglas, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 3:30 p.m., at Deaconess Hospital. She was born March 20, 1926 to Dorothy and Nolan Douglas in Monroe City, IN.

Martha was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Phillips, and his wife, of Tyler, Texas and a brother, Norman Douglas.

Martha graduated from Monroe City High School in 1944. She was married to John F. Phillips on August 24, 1945, and they shared 62 happy years of marriage.

She worked for Weinbach Cafeteria for 20 years.

Martha was a member of Bethany Christian Church Disciples of Christ on Mill Road, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and eating breakfast with friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband, John Phillips; son, Johnny L. Phillips and his wife, Pat Phillips; granddaughter, Rae Ann Reinicke and husband, Mark; great-granddaughter, Laura Reinicke; brother, Bob Miller of Chandler, IN; 6 sisters-in-law, Mary Douglas, Martha Meredith and husband, Denny, Ann Phillips, Patsy Phillips, Linda Phillips, and Gail Phillips, all of Evansville; four stepgrandchildren; many stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dan Lovell with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
