James Atwood was born in Callahan County in 1922. He lived in Odessa and Abilene before moving to Alamagordo, N.M., in 1965. He moved to San Angelo in 1986. In Alamagordo he owned and operated a service station and motel and retired from the used car business in 1982. He was a member of Elks Lodge in Alamagordo and was a Baptist. He married Betty Jean Schulmerich in 1952 in Odessa.
