William Lewis "Bill" Chain, 64, of Oklahoma City and a former Cooperton resident, died December 29, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City.
He was born February 24, 1936, in Cooperton, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, to Virgil Ernest and Mary Elizabeth (Ferril) Chain. He was reared in Cooperton and graduated from Cooperton High School.
He married Glenda Faye Beutler May 29, 1959, in Alfalfa, Caddo County, Oklahoma.
He worked in construction. He worked for Firestone-Champlin Service Center in Lawton which he later owned and operated. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Glenda of the home; two sons, William Leroy Chain and wife Joanne, Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Stanley Glenn Chain, Medicine Park, Oklahoma; one daughter, Deborah Evaline Barnhill, Jones, Oklahoma; three brothers, Garland Ray Chain and wife Cleta, Cooperton, Oklahoma; Roy Dwayne Chain and wife Virginia, Geronimo, Oklahoma; and Amos Leon Chain, Cooperton, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren, Michelle Ladonna Chain and William Michael Chain, Weatherford, Oklahoma; Jeremy Lee Barnhill, Jessie Cordel Barnhill, and Jacob Austin Barnhill, all of Jones, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mary Chain, one brother, Kenneth Howard "Speedy" Chain, and one sister Evelyn Sue Harms.
Services were January 2, 2001, at People's Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, south of Cooperton, Kiowa County, Oklahoma.
