Ann Newton was the daughter of Benjamin Ross and the wife of William Newton. Ann (Ross) and William Newton arrived at New York on January 11, 1841 on the ship "Westchester" out of Liverpool. They first went to Delaware, then to Perry County, Illinois where they are shown in the 1850 census. Sometime after 1853, the family moved to Iowa, living in Polk County in 1856 and Warren County in 1860. Ann and William Newton then moved to Lincoln County, Dakota Territory, where they are listed in both the 1870 and 1880 federal census. Their final years were spent near their son William in Smith County, Kansas. She was aged 68 years, 7 months, 8 days.
