Obituary, Overturf---
Martha May Owen, daughter of the Rev. Andrew Owen , an early circuit riding minister, and his wife Sarah (Houk) Owen, was born near Ormanville, Ia., Jan. 12, 1876 and passed away at her home in Edgar, Nebr., April 12, 1957, at the age of 81 years and three months.

April 18, 1895, she was united in marriage with Jacob A. Overturf and with him proceeded to establish an Iowa farm home. They farmed in Iowa for fourteen years and came to Nebraska in 1909 where life was spent in farming in the Edgar and Ong communities. The retired to the home in Edgar in 1942.

Mr. and Mrs. Overturf were received into membership in the Methodist Protestant Church near Belknap, Ia., in 1897.

They were the parents of ten children three of whom, all sons, preceded the mother in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Fred Johnson of Roswell, N. M.; Mrs. Clark Kinnison of Edgar, Nebr.; Dr. C. F. Overturf of Pocatello, Ida.; Mrs. D. H. Cox of Hedley, Tex.; Earl Overturf serving in the Merchant Marine; Walter Overturf of Grand Island, Nebr., and Mrs. A. N. Scism of Edgar, Nebr. All of these were present at the service except Earl and a message was received from him from Wilmington, Calif.

In addition to the children names and her husband, Mrs. Overturf is survived by 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Owen of Kelly, Ida., and Curtis Owen of Grants Pass, Ore.; and one sister, Mrs. Myra Overturf of Ottumwa, Ia.

She was a person of ready wit and a happy philosophy of life. A good wife and a noble mother, her contacts went outside the home amongst her friends many of whom will remember her with love and friendly recollections.

Services under the direction of the McGhie funeral service were held in the Methodist Church in Edgar at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Harry Gleim in charge.

Mrs. Archie Melvin and Mrs. Loren Jensen sang "In the Upper Garden" with Mrs. Robert Mikkelsen at the organ.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Laurene Powell, Mrs. Homer Hand and Mrs. Floyd Kollman.

Casket bearers were Erwin Branstitre, Harry Due, Arthur Scism, Wm. Organ, Ralph Sconce and Carlos Bascom. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery.
