Henry Schreiber, aged 87 years, for the past 50 years assessor of Walcott, and for 52 years secretary of the school board of that place, died at 8:30 o'clock last evening at his home, after a lingering illness due to heart trouble.

Mr. and Mrs. Schreiber had quietly celebrated their golden wedding on February 23, and hundreds of friends visited the home to congratulate the couple.

He was born in Germany, February 8, 1843, and came to America in 1856, settling in Dubuque. He later moved to Walcott, where he was engaged in the carpenter business until 15 years ago, when he retired.

Mr. Schreiber married in Walcott, February 23, 1870, to Miss Bertha Dehnk.

The survivors are his wife, eight children, Carl of Muscatine, Gustav of Walcott, Mrs. J. H. Paarmann and Mrs. Henry Betz of Davenport, Mrs. E. E. McGinley of Cedar Rapids, Bertha, Elsie and Mary at home, and two brothers and a sister residing in Dubuque.

Mr. Schreiber had hosts of friends in Walcott and vicinity and his death is being widely mourned.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home in Walcott.
