She was born Galina Wsevolodovna Ampenova. She was a Mother Superior of The Convent of the Annunciation in London. Born in Russia, she lived in Moscow until the revolution pushed her family into emigration to England. In 1940 she joined the Monastery of Gesthemene in Palestine where she became a nun. After the state of Israel was created, the monastery had to move around and eventually she found herself in England where together with other nuns she founded The Convent of the Annunciation, the first Orthodox Womens Convent.

"The Rev. Abbess Elisabeth Ampenoff died peacefully in the Convent of the Annunciation on 3rd February 1999. The funeral at the Convent of the Annunciation, 26 Brondesbury Park, London NW6 on Saturday 6th February. Liturgy and Service at 8am followed by interment at Gunnersbury Cemetery at 12 noon."
