He was a true cowboy for various ranches in Washington, Idaho and Oregon herding cattle and performing various ranch chores.
In 1918 his Draft Registration stated he was living in Metolius, was self employed and was working near Metolius, Oregon. His wife was "Nora Barton", his oldest sister, Emily May Barton Hathhorn and her husband James had been living near Metolius. The first two children of Emily & James were born there. Perhaps Bob purchased the Hathhorn homestead when they moved to Hood River. He cannot be located in any census records.
