25 Jan 1926: Weakened by her long vigil at the bedside of her husband who died on Saturday a week ago, and further devitalized by grief over her bereavement, Mrs. Fannie Cooper Bender, widow of Dr. George Bender, Jonestown druggist, died on Sunday morning at 7:30 o'clock just eight days after her husband passed away. Mrs. Bender nursed her husband in his fatal illness with great devotion, and with great self-sacrifice. Just before he died, she contracted a cold, which quickly developed into double pneumonia in her weakened condition. Symptoms of heart trouble also manifested themselves with the reaction that came when the strain of her long vigil relaxed, and her decline was rapid. The deceased was a daughter of the late Dr. Jacob Cooper, of Jonestown, who was widely known throughout the county. She is the last member of that family, and her death also ends the career of her own family, her three children, Robert Cooper Bender, Eril Elizabeth Bender, and Gertrude Dorothy Bender, having proceeded her in death. Her nearest relatives are a son-in-law, Robert Enders, of Harrisburg, and three grandchildren, Gertrude, Catherine and Cooper Enders, all of Harrisburg. Fannie Bender was born and raised in Lebanon County and lived there all her life. [Lebanon Daily News]
