27 Nov 1932 . Mr JAMES TROUP

A well-known Waikato resident, Mr James Troup, died at Frankton on November 27, aged 85 years. Born in Scotland, Mr Troup came to New Zealand 58 years ago. He lived at Woodville for 26 years where he took an active part in local affairs and was a member of the Borough Council, School Committee, A. and P. Association and the Racing Club. Mr Troup was one of the first settlers in the King Country. In recent years Mr Troup lived at Frankton and acted as green superintendent to two bowling clubs. He belonged to the Masonic Order.
A well-known bowler
The death occurred at a private hospital yesterday of Mr James Troup, one of the best known figures in local bowling circles and patron of the Frankton Club. Born at Peterhead, Scotland, 85 years ago, deceased came to New Zealand in 1874 on the ship 'Auckland'. He landed at Dunedin and went on to Napier, where he farmed for six years. He then went to Woodville, where he lived for 26 years, taking a prominent part in local affairs. He was a member of the first racing club in the district and served on the Borough Council, Agricultural Show Committee, School Committee and other bodies. On leaving Woodville, Mr Troup took up land in the King Country and was one of the first settlers at Ngapaenaga. In 1914 he sold his holding and went to his home town in Scotland, returning to New Zealand in 1918.
Deceased visited America and Canada in 1925. In recent years he had lived at Frankton and was a well known and popular bowler. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr Troup is survived by an adult family. There are eleven grandchildren.

- On May 20, at Te Awamutu, Agnes, loved wife of the late James Troup, late of Otorohanga; aged 78 years. Funeral leaves Scrimshaw's Chapel to-morrow (Saturday) at 11a.m. for the Hamilton East Cemetery.
