MRS. R. JENSEN DIED HERE TODAY--Native of Prussia Had Lived In
Burlington 55 Years
Mrs. Dorothea Elizabeth Jensen 528 Curran Street, 79-year-old widow of
Richard Jensen, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning in Burlington
hospital.
Mrs. Jensen was born in Prussia September 8, 1849, coming to the United
States when she was 13 years old, in a sailing vessel, the trip across
the ocean requiring 13 weeks. She was married in New York City in 1869
to Richard Jensen, the couple coming to Burlington four years later. Her
husband preceded her in death 27 years ago. Mrs Jensen was a member of
the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are four sons; Bernard Jensen and Peter Jensen of Burlington,
Richard Jensen of Tulare S.D., and William F. Jensen of Cedar Rapids;
five daughters, Mrs. Fred Niemeyer and Mrs. Everett Chandler of Cedar
Rapids, Mrs. Thomas Canny of Burlington, Mrs. Carl Johnson of Lima,
Peru, and Mrs. Herbert Schweiger of Garry, Ind. Nineteen grandchildren
and three great grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the residence, Saturday afternoon at
2:00 o'clock with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. The body was taken to
Prugh's chapel.
