George Winsell is the son of Dr. James Winsell, who established his ranch on land he purchased for 62 ½ cents an acre in 1856. That land is now where the Coleman Fish Hatchery is located. A large ditch carried water out of Battle Creek at his place to the Ball's Ferry Flouring Mill where it was used to supply power to operate the mill. The ditch is still used today. The big barn that stands at the entrance to the hatchery was possibly his father's.
