CONOVER - Ethel Turner Gilleland, 87, of Conover, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born July 12, 1920, in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Wiley E. and Julie Hayes Turner. She retired from Twin City Knitting and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Roy Gilleland; and brothers, Edgar Turner, Commie Turner, Frank Turner, Carl Turner, Martin Turner and Thurmond Turner. Survivors include a stepson, Gene Gilleland of Maiden; brothers, Roy Turner and Vernon Turner, both of Hamptonville; three stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2008, at Gospel Light Baptist Church. The Revs. Wayne Blanton and David Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Gospel Light Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Maiden. Memorials may be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church, P.O. Box 62, Conover, N.C. 28613.
