Pete was born in Louisburg and lived most of his early years with his mother and brother Art in a house just west of Broadway on N. 1st street. After he was discharged from the Army in the fall of 1945, he and Mary Jane's first home was an apartment above the school bus barn on Olive street. They then bought the house next door to his boyhood home and lived there until 1961, when they bought and refurbished the old Gatley place at S. 7th and Broadway, where Pete and Mary Jane lived the rest of their lives.
After the war, Pete worked as a mechanic for Rosner Motor Company until he became a Standard Oil agent, selling bulk fuel and oil to farmers and businesses. Pete served as the Mayor of Louisburg during the late '60s to early '70s. He retired from Standard Oil in 1972, then went to work part time for the City of Louisburg until his health failed.
