He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. Mike was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, working on highway post offices and railroad mail cars. He retired as a letter carrier from the Mineral Point Post Office in 1985. He then worked for 13 years at the Kwik Trip.
On July 29, 1961, Mike married Dorothy Anderson in Mineral Point. He loved gardening and sharing the produce with neighbors and friends. He spent many hours reminiscing about his jobs as a youth delivering milk and ice in Mineral Point. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 170 and the V.F.W.; he was a lifetime member of St. Mary's / St. Paul's Congregation and served on its church council.
Mike is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his three children, Michael Palzkill, Patricia Johnson and David (Diane) Palzkill, all of Mineral Point; his grandchildren, Katelyn (Theron Oellerich) and Jacob Johnson, both of Mineral Point; his brother, Jerome (Janice) Palzkill, of Walworth, two sisters-in-law, Elaine Bratton and Catherine Palzkill; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Lambert, Charles, Firman, Vincent and Ralph, and his sisters: Bernice McMurrough, Ruth Preston and Jean Tesch.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's - St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mineral Point, with Fr. James Hinnen officiating.
Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion and V.F.W.
