He was the son of Elsie Austin and the late Wilburn Akins. He was retired from Marion County Shirt Factory in the Labeling and Shipping Department. He was married to Mary Jo (Merriman) Akins who preceded him in death. He was a life long resident of Marion County and attended the Peel Full Gospel Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. Survivors include his mother; one son and his wife; two daughters and their husband's; three brothers; two sisters; and six grandchildren. His wife, father and brother W.M. Akins preceded him in death.
