They came to America in the year 1849, locating in the town of Moundville. Nine children were born, eight of whom are living. They are Mrs. L W. Loveland, Kingston; Mrs. M. A. W. Spain, Packwaukee; Mrs. C. W. Mountford, Poynette; Mrs. S. W. House, Arlington, Iowa; David W. Stanton, Union Center; Edwin W. Stanton, Elkader, Iowa; Alfred W. Stanton, Sexton, Iowa; Thomas Stanton, Poynette.
Another daughter died at the age of three years.
The deceased had fifty two grandchildren, ninety seven great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
He removed from Moundville and has made his home at Poynette for more than fory years. After his wife's death, September 27. 1897, Mr. Stanton made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Mountford, surrounded by his grandchildren, who with their mother, gave him all the care loving hearts could bestow.
He quietly passed away the evening of May 21, retaining to the last the faith "He that believeth on Him that sent me hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life."
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Mountford and were conducted by Rev. Rowe. He was laid to rest in the Poynette cemetery by the side of his wife May 24, 1909

Henry was the son of Thomas and Catherine (Clair) Stanton and the brother of Thomas Everett Stanton and James Alfred Stanton.
Thomas was later married to Ann Elizabeth Clark. Henry was the stepbrother of Elizabeth Clark Stanton, Mary Clark Stanton, and George Clark Stanton.
