GALENA, Ill. -- Willis J. Deininger, 100, of Galena, died at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, with the Rev. Stacy Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1908, in East Galena Township of Jo Daviess County, son of William and Louisa (Meugge) Deininger.
He married Alma Bardell on Jan. 14, 1930, at Hampshire; she preceded him in death on April 1, 1994.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Galena.
Willis was a retired farmer. He loved coon and squirrel hunting, making homemade wine and just plain loved to work.
Surviving are six children, Lester (Lola) Deininger, Bill (Faud) Deininger, Richard (Alys) Deininger, all of Galena, Rose (Bob) Harkness, of Freeport, Marilyn (Kenneth) Flack, of East Dubuque, and Charles (Nancy) Deininger, of Lena; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn M. Deininger; a grandson, Steve Deininger; and three great-grandchildren, Stuart, Chad and Emmalee; and eight brothers and sisters, John, Herbert, Marie, Amanda, Rosie, Bertie, Clara and Pauline.
