Born to John and Leah (Martin) Caldwell, the fifth of ten children. Came to Battle Creek Michigan at five months, where he resided until November 1913. Cy was first married in Kalamazoo, MI to Emma Alice Gaylord of Springport, MI in 1857, she preceded him in 1901. Was a cavalry sergeant in the Merrill Horse Regiment, Co I during the Civil War. Was a stern and well liked man quite interested in family and politics. His funeral was conducted by W.M. Strother Funeral Home, at 6240 Hollywood Blvd. Surviving were second wife Catherine E., sister Margaret E. Buck of Ft. Wayne, IN, sons William C. and Gaylord F., daughters Cora and Maud A., and six grandchildren; William M., John C., Christine A. and Anna M. Caldwell; and Carolyn L. and Beatrice M. Francis.
