My Grandpa Dick was b. at home at 424-19th Avenue in Council Bluffs, Pottawatamie, Iowa.

Grandpa joined the Colo. Nat'l Guard and his unit was activated and sent to Europe for 2 years during WW I.

On 20 Nov 1905, he wed his neighbor, Elsie Marie THOMSEN. This union produced a daughter, Mary Ellen, on 24 Dec 1905. She d. the following February.

My dad, Donald C. Heflin, was b. 27 Aug 1908 to this union.
He, later, changed his middle name to Richard.

Grandpa Dick got a job on one of the 8 RRs that we had in town. When he was transferred to Denver, Elsie refused to leave her dad, Peter Christian Thomsen.

He was selling stamps at the Denver P.O. window when he retired. The Postal Superintendant sent him a letter of thanks for his postal services.

He, concurrently, belonged to the Colo. Nat'l Guard for 20 more years gaining a rank of 2nd Sgt.

His middle name, ABIAL, was misspelled on his original Gov't supplied monument, so I had them correct it by making a new one.

He, later, wed #2)Oola Zoa CARTER & then #3)Nelle EICHLEBERG.
