1860, 01 Jan: FEDERAL CENSUS SCHEDULE: The Edward B. Colton Family were residing in/nr Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY.

1861, 01 Aug: Mary Ellen Colton, my great-grandmother, was born in/nr the small town of Unadilla, Otsego Co., NY the daughter of Edward Bonn Colton (1825-1912) & Lydia Young ALLEN Colton (1827-1906).

1870, 01 Jan: Federal Census: The Colton Family was living in the Village of Sun Prairie, Dane Co., WI. Her dad was a skilled Boot Maker, and later a Jeweler.

1880, 01 Jan: The Edward B. Colton Family was living in Columbia Co., WI.

1880, 01 Jun: As the story goes, Mary Ellen Colton went to a small farm near Le Mars, Plymouth Co., IA for her summer vacation.

This is where she met my great-grandfather, John Alvin Heflin, who was working on said farm as a Horse Trainer.

1881, 18 Oct: John A. Heflin (23) b. IL wed Mary Ellan COLTON (20) b. WI in Le Mars, Plymouth, IA. [so sez her dau. Osa Belle HEFLIN Francis. Aunt Osa said that she used to have an embroidered facsimile of it.]
