Little is known of Matilda's early life. She married Lee Lowder (born 1822) from the Milingport community of Stanly County, NC and together they had seven children. Lee was inducted in the Confederate Army and served as a private in Co. K, 28th NC Infantry. Lee died in December 1863 in a military hospital in Lynchburg, VA and is buried in the Confederate soldiers section of the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg. Matilda lived the remaining 62 years of her life as a widow. She is buried at Canton Baptist Church near her son Henry Davidson. Her picture on the right of this profile was made in 1912 when Matilda was 93 years old.
