PORTLAND-- Joseph S. Klinski, 76, of 19 HIghland Ave., husband of Justine (Osik) Olson-Klinski, died Tuesday at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a lengthy illness.
He was a typographer at several area newspapers, including the Meriden Record, Middletown Press and New Britain Herald, from which he retired in 1973. As an International Typographer's Union member, he was secretary-treasurer of the former Local 314 in Meriden, and president of the former Local 679, New Britain. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific area. He was Connecticut state commissioner and national vice commander of the Polish Legion of America Veterans. As president of the Meriden United Veterans Council, he became an incorporator of the World War II Veterans Memorial Hospital. He also was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest No. 68 and the BPOE Lodge 35 of Meriden. He also was secretary, president and treasurer of the Connecticut Republican Labor League.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, James G. Klinski of Meriden and Richard N. Klinski of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; four brothers, Frank Kicielinski and Edwin Kicielinski, both of Meriden and Henry Klinski of Meriden and Walter Klinski of Wallingford; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Emily) McElroy, Mrs. Francis (Anna) Zaborowski and Veronica Klinski, all of Meriden; one grandson, many nieces and nephews, and three step-children, Richard Olson of Seattle, Mrs. Vincent (Judy) Stephani of Newtown, Pa. and Mrs. Edward (Carolyn) Gacio of Ringwood, N.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday morning at St. Mary's Church, Portland, with the Rev. Joseph C. Ashe officiating. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Meriden, with full military honors. The Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland, is in charge of arrangements.

Ashe officiating, assisted by Msgr. Henry J. Dziadosz, pastor of St. Bridget of Kildore Church in the Moodus section of East Haddam. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Meriden, with Ashe conducting the committal service. Full military honors were accorded by a unit from the Connecticut National Guard. The Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were David L. Budka and Frank W. Budka, step-grandsons; and Charles Flanagan, Walter Rajewski, Francis McElroy and Thomas Martowski, all nephews. The honorary pallbearers all are associated with PLAV Post 189 of Meriden They were Ted Oblon, past commander, Irene Oblon, past president of the PLAV Auxiliary and members, Norm Marsza, Frank Tonhowicz, Ed Slisz, Francis Starinski, Katherine Astramowicz, Josephine Najduch, Rose Skisz and Theresa Dembiczak.
