William Gray Whitfield is the son of Elisha Whitfield and Zilpha Brantley Whitfield of North Carolina.

William Whitfield of Pickens County, Georgia enlisted with the Confederacy on 1 May 1862 serving for the State of Georgia.

Service Record: Enlisted in Company C, Georgia 43rd Infantry Regiment on 01 May 1862.
