HEREFORD - Frederick "Ned" Gibbs, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008.

Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kyle Streun officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mr. Gibbs was born June 12, 1918, in Potter County, the son of Frederick and Emily Gibbs. He married Leota Nivens on Dec. 22, 1958, in Canyon. Ned worked as the manager for Pinkney Packing Co. for more than 20 years in Hereford, owned and operated F.C. Ned Gibbs Trucking Co. for more than 10 years in Hereford and farmed in Parmer County for several years. After 30 years of service, Mr. Gibbs retired as the kill floor manager with Caviness Packing Co. in Hereford. For many years, he played in a band with his friends in Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Hill and Milton Gibbs; a daughter, Barbara Hill Cochran; three brothers, Carlton Gibbs, Buster Gibbs and John Gibbs; and a sister, Virginia Keith.

Survivors include his wife, Leota; a son, Leon Gibbs of Amarillo; a daughter, Jeannie Owens of Clarendon; two sisters, Fern Hall of Clarendon and Shirley Roberts of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
