Donald Mcnett
Donald F. McNett, 92, Belmont, died Monday, March 7, 1994, at his home after a lingering illness.
He was born in Elk Grove Township, Lafayette County on Sept. 27, 1901, the son of Cameron and Elizabeth Fox McNett. He was united in marriage to Alpha Baker April 12, 1921. They farmed in Grant and Lafayette Counties until retiring to Belmont in 1958. Don then became involved in real estate and developed the McNett addition on the west side of Belmont. In 1970, he envisioned and created Lake Joy, which is three miles from Belmont. His greatest pleasure, aside from his family, was to assist in the growth and development of others and the community.
Don was instrumental in building the Swiss cheese factory and establishing a local medical clinic and he donated to the Village of Belmont a building for the John Turgeson Library. As a 32nd Degree Mason, he was very active in the Platteville Masonic Lodge, Commandery, Consistory, Zor Shrine and the Eastern Star for over 40 years. He was a member of the Pleasant View Primitive Methodist Church for 56 years.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Alpha, Belmont; two daughters, Marybelle (George) Hillery, Belmont; Joy (John) Newman, Madison; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Sedgwick, Potosi; a daughter-in-law Bernice McNett, Belmont; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn McNett, Warren, Ill.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 10, 1994, at 11 am at the Westview Methodist Church, Platteville. The Rev. Robert Gill will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call at the Mergen-Boll Funeral Home Wednesday, March 9, 1994 from 3 until 8 pm and at the church on Thursday after 10 am. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.
