BRYSON CITY - Manuel Rufus Parton, 88, of the Lauada community died Sunday in a Bryson City hospital after a period of declining health.
He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are six sons, Ed, Fred, Thad, Harrie and Frank Parton of Bryson City and Grayson Parton of Asheville; six daughters, Mrs. Vesta King, Mrs. Ollie Bailey, Mrs. Ruby Church, Mrs. Edna Watkins and Mrs. Beuna Winchester of Bryson City and Mrs. Jane Green of Wilmont; 70 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sawmill Hill Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. John Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
The body has been placed in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ollie Bailey in the Lauada community to remain until 30 minutes before services.
