Valentine Samek was born on the family farm in Dickinson, North Dakota. Valentine's grandmother, Mary Stransky Samek, was a mid wife. She delivered him and most of his brothers and sisters.
*Note: Valentine's brother Laudie Valentine Samek took the name Valentine for his confirmation name. "This was the name of the little brother who had died in infancy of whopping cough. By taking his name, Valentine would always be remembered." Their father, James Frank Samek, had always felt bad that Valentine had been left behind in a little grave un Dickinson, North Dakota.
