Funeral services for eldely Delphos couple killed by a fire in their home late Friday will be Monday afternoon.
Calvin Cleo Dunifon, 60 and his wife Edna, 71, died of suffication, according to a ruling by the Allen County Corner Dr William Noble.
Fireman and police were unable to rescue the couple from the two story frame house in the 1100 block of Northern Franklin Stree.
A neighbor, Mrs Larry Keipper of 1127 North Franklin reported the fire at 10:20 pm Friday.
The fire was brought under control at about 11 pm. Mr Dunifon was found sprawled across a bed. Mrs Dunifon was on the floor in an adjoing room.
Delphos fire chief Paul Clinger said the fire apparently was caused by a buring cigarette.
The couple for Lima residents were retired.
Mr Dunifon was born April 1, 1904 in Scott Ohio, the son of Dayton Dunfion and Elizabeth Dunifon. He married Edna Stettler Dewitt May 13, 1939. He is survived by one brother Charles, Delphos; four sisters Mrs Carl Ebbeskotte, Mrs Delmer Kohorst, Mrs Charles Billemick, all of Delphos and Mrs Kenneth Ditto, Lima; two half brothers Alwert and William Dewitt of Delphos; a half sister Mrs Howard Tippie of Illnois.
Mrs Dunifon was born September 24, 1893 in Scott, the daughter of George and Rachel Stuttler.
She had 40 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Surviving are eight daughters: Mrs George (Pauline) Meeks, Lima, Mrs Glen (Lulu) Clarkson, Delphos, Mrs Herbert (Hazel) Allen, Dunkirk, Mrs Jake (Betty) Alsbaugh, Cleveland, Mrs John (Fay) Bill, Saginaw Michigan, Mrs Paul (Norma Jean) Whitehead, Muncie Indiana, Mrs Jay (Viola) Smith, Tennessee, Miss Connie Dewitt, Cleveland and one son Alfred Dewitt, Lima.
Funeral Services will be 2 pm Monday at Harter and Son Funeral Home, Delphos burial will be in Delphos West Side Cemetery.
