The passing away of Aaron Nebeker, commonly known as Harry occurred on Feb 15. With his passing another old resident of Fairview has left us after a long period of illness. Although afflicted for years, he was not compelled to lie in bed until about three months ago, since that time he has been practically helpless and suffered a great deal until death came as a great relief.
Deceased was born in 1868 in Salt Lake City, his parents being Aaron Nebeker and Jane Ann Smith Nebeker, who had just arrived previous to his birth from a mission of four years, called the Dixie Mission. He is descended from a line of pioneers, his grandfather coming to Salt Lake in 1847.
after his father's arrival back in Salt Lake, he still had the spirit of pioneering, and moved to Bear Lake when Harry was a baby and helped open up the Bear Lake mission, facing Indians and hardships attendant to opening a new country.
Still not content to settle he moved to the Snake river country with his father and family and settled in what is now known as Shelley, but was then known as Cedar Point. The elder Nebeker had his homestead where Shelley now stands, but owing to sickness he sold his holdings in Idaho and moved back to Laketown, Utah. While residing there, Harry married Elizabeth Bestel Magetts of Paris, Idaho, in the year of 1898.
In 1901 he, with his father and brothers moved to Star Valley where he has since resided.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and eight children, four sons, Lester, Howard, William, and Ernest, his daughters, Mrs Jane Nebeker Smith, Nora, Blanch and Alta. His oldest daughter Veneletta preceded him to the great beyond a number of years ago. He also leaves to mourn his four brothers and one sister, his brothers being Archillis, Roy and Fitzgerald of Fairview and Ira of Montpelier, Idaho; his sister Mrs Lorena Gordon of San Francisco, California.
Deceased was a very staunch character. He would stand by what he considered right against any odds and never hesitated to stand by his convictions, but he was very tender hearted and loved his family devotedly.
In his loss his family looses a loving father and devoted husband.
Funeral services were held Saturday Feb. 21 at 2p.m. The prayers were by Peter Anderson and Con Millward. The speakers were Joe Linford, R. H. Hillstead, Harold Allen, Pres. Albert Barrus and Bishop Brown. The choir sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "O My Father". Mrs edna Allen, Harvey Allred, Mrs Walter Harmon, Lera Brown, Margaret Allred, Eldon Allred, Con Millward and Del Tolman sang "Some Time We'll Understand," A male quartet, Harvey, Eldon and Ronald Allred and Harold Allen sang "School Thy Feelings".
Out of the valley folks present at the funeral were Mr and Mrs W.H. Smith of Rexburg,Idaho; Lester Nebeker, of Shelley, Idaho, and Ira Nebeker of Montpelier, Idaho.
Every seat in the church was taken by friends of the deceased.
