Moses Howes was also in the 105th Illinois and survived the war. He was also a resident of Shabbona, Dekalb Co, Illinois, born in New York, and 5 years older than his brother Phillip. Their younger brother Edwin Howes, served in the 20th Illinois and also survived the war.

Phillip Howes was mis-identified as "P.H. House" in the Roll of Honor Vol xi and the error perpetuated by the VA:
