Franciscan sister of St. Joseph for 68 yrs, died Aug. 9, 2008 in the Colette Hilbert Health Center, Hamburg. She was 87.

Dorothy Victoria was born Nov. 9, 1920 to the late Adam and Vernonica (nee Andrzejewski) Bogdanowicz. She entered the aspirancy of the Franciscan sisters of St. Joseph on August 17, 1937, and on Sept. 11, 1938 she became a postulant. Sister Mary Dorothy professed her final vows on July 10, 1943.

Sister Mary Dorothy received a master's degree in education from Bloomsburg State University, Bloomsburg, Pa. She spent years of ministry in the field of education, teaching in schools in the Buffalo Diocese, as well as schools in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan and Alabama. Locally, she taught at Holy Trinity, Niagara Falls; St. Columba, Buffalo; and St. Joseph and North Tonawanda Catholic School, North Tonawanda.

In 1991, Sister Mary Dorothy retired to Immaculate Conception Convent in Hamburg. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Bogdanowicz, who resides in Baltimore; loving sister of the late Joseph (late Sally), late Veronica (late John) Przemielewski, late Walter (late Emile), late Sister Mary Sylvina, FSSJ, the late Rev. Casimir, OFM CONV., late Mary (late Stanley) Malczewski, Barbara, late Martin, late Rose (late Ed)Lisiewski, late Julia (late Richard) Cerny and the late Benjamin Bogdanowicz.
