He married Elnora Susana Buck 16 Dec 1896 in Clay Co., Kansas.
From an Orange County, California newspaper:
"Hiram M. Rasmussen
Hiram M. Rasmussen, 74, retired rancher of 12692 S. Gilbert St., Garden Grove, died today in St. Joseph hospital after a short illness. Mr. Rasmussen, a resident of Garden Grove for the past three years, had lived in California since 1918.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Forney of Garden Grove and two sisters, Mrs. Florence McKinney and Mrs. Emma Purves, both of Santa Ana.
Mr. Rasmussen, a former resident of Clifton, Kan., was a member of IOOF lodge of that city.
Services will b e held in the Smith and Tuthill chapel Wednesday at 10 a. m., with services to be conducted by Rev. Robert Burns McAulay of Orange.
Interment will be in Fairhaven mausoleum.

December 16, 1948
"Hiram M. Rasmussen whose death occured Dec. 6, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mates Rasmussen a pioneer family of Bloom township. He was born November 19, 1874 and died in St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Calif. December 6, 1948 at the age of 74 years and 16 days. The family were members of the Presbyterian church and the Christian teaching he received in his youth reflected in his character throughout his life. He was a kindly man and many have precious memories of Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen's thoughtfulness. He was devoted to his home and family.
He attended the Lincoln school and Manhattan State College. He was united in marriage to Miss Nora S. Buck of Clifton December 16, 1896. To this union one daughter Lillian now Mrs. Thad Forney was born.
They established their home of his farm in Bloom township, later moving to Clifton where he had a grocery store and garage. Their home was a Santa Ana, Calif for 26 years. Mrs. Rasmussen died on October 13, 1945. Since that time he has been with his daughter Mrs. Thad Forney and Mr. Forney in Garden Grove, Calif. Their loving care and attention was a great comfort to him. He is survived by his daughter and husband and two sisters Mrs. Florebnce McKinney and Mrs. John Purves both of Santa Ana, Calif., other relatives and friends.
He was a member of the I. O.O.F. lodge for 45 years. Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon December 8 at the Smith and Tuthill Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Burns McAuley pastor of the Presbyterian church and the I.O.O.F. lodge in charge of the services. David Forney sang. "Shall We meet Beyond the River" and "The End of a Perfect Day." Pallbnearers were John Purves, Harry Stoneback, Chas. Edwards, Rayburn Purves, Walter Somerby and Arthur Harvey. Interment was made in a Mauseleum in Fairhaven cemetery."
