I believe that Margaret was the daughter of John Dougherty (aka Doughtery, Doughty and Dougharty). I have not been able to locate a marriage record for him but he was the head of household in 1790 federal census York co SC with 1 m and 7 females listed. In 1800 same place some of the assumed . daughters were married. John served as a private in the Cherokee Wars (listed as a private in the book "Colonial soldiers and Patriots")
Margaret married William Gibson circa 1800 (record not found). They were parents to: Elizabeth, Alexander, Rebecca J, Jane, William D., James, and Joseph Gidson.
