Born in Wilmington, NC on August 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late John and Sadie Brogan.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved late husband, Carl Bender, her first husband, Louis Creech, cherished daughter, Faye Creech Marlowe, sisters, Lillian Gainey and Katherine Forbis, brothers, John Brogan and Billy Brogan, and stepchildren, Frances Creech Fincannon, Marie Creech Platter, Louise Creech Hardy, Cecil Creech, and Lewis Creech.
Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, Gene (Geralene) Creech and Ray (Dandy) Creech,
grandchildren, David Marlowe, Berry Marlowe, Gene Creech Jr., Kelly Creech Smith,
Andy Creech, Barry Creech, Teddy Marlowe, Freddy Marlowe, and Martie Marlowe, brother, Bobby (Faye) Barefoot, stepson, Charles (Carol) Creech, ten step-grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, as well as many special nieces and nephews. She was known and loved by family and friends as Granny. Her love for children brought her great joy. She was independent and proudly led her life on her own terms.
Sister Bender was a faithful member of the Apostolic Tabernacle for many years. The family appreciates the love, support and generosity of her church family. She also had many special friends among her neighbors on Little John Circle. She will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Apostolic Tabernacle, 712 Wellington Avenue, Wilmington, NC 28401, officiated by Pastor L.E. Logue. The family will receive friends for visitation at 10:00am (one hour prior to the service) on September 25th at the church. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
