He was born May 6, 1922 in Leonard, Missouri the son of Thomas Lane and Margaret Pearl (Johnson) Kemp. He was married to Ann Tungate March 24, 1945 in Alexandria, Louisiana who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Linda Snyder, Kirksville, Brenda McClelland of Columbia and Kim Kemp of Columbia; 8 grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim was a veteran of World War II. He served as the Adair County Sheriff from 1977 to 1984.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday November 15, 2005 at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial with military honors was in Park View Memorial Gardens.
