Millers Creek - Mr. John Jake Handy, age 83, of Oak Grove Church Road, Millers Creek, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Handy was born July 28, 1924 in Wilkes County to Ira Marshall and Maude Adams Handy. He attended Millers Creek Baptist Church for more than 20 years. He retired from Flav-o-rich, Inc. after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by one brother, Quincy Thomas Handy and two sisters, Gladys H. Hayes and Grace H. Sprinkle.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Fern Greene Handy; one son, Johnny B. Handy and wife Brenda of Boomer; three daughters, Peggy Handy Broyhill and husband Bob of Millers Creek, Debra Handy Carter and husband Jeff of West Jefferson, Cathy Handy McKenzie and husband Reid of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Numa Handy of Huntsville, Texas; four sisters, Irene H. Pendry of Trinity, Cassie H. Blevins of Hays, Vicie E. Handy of North Wilkesboro; Nell Handy of North Wilkesboro; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 o'clock Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sherrill Wellborn and the Rev. Jim Gore officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. THe family will be at Miller Funeral Service from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock on Thursday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2200 Lake Blvd. Atlanta, Georgia, NC 30319.
