Peter was serving at Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham,and died age 58 - his widow, Alice Jane Bowes died the following year and was laid to rest with him. Their infant son, Henry George Peter Bowes died aged 10 months at Woolwich on 29th August 1890. They lost two sons in the Great War, both at age 22:
