Son of August and Julianna (Knopf) Witzke, Born in Prussia (Poland), Husband of Pauline (Tesmer) Witzke. Gustave, his wife Pauline, and daughter Anna immigrated from Germany (today Poland) to the U.S. in April 1880; arriving in New York on the steamship S.S. Ohio. They settled in Wausau, Wisconsin for several years and then moved to Hammond, Wabasha Co, Minnesota. After his death in 1911, Pauline and family moved to Avoca Nebraska.

Gustave's older brother, Johann Daniel Reinhold Witzke, was a minister of the German Evangelical Synod of North America and is buried at St Lucas Community Cemetery near Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
