Age 69, formerly of Menasha, passed away Wednesday afternoon February 1, 1989, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, following a courageous 25 year battle with cancer. She was born January 28, 1920, in Menasha, daughter of John and Mary Ponkratz. She had lived in this area all of her life. She was a member of St. Bernards Parish, Appleton. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Mary Lynn and Denis Verhagen, Appleton; a son and daughter-in-law; John and Mary Frieders, Stoughton; three sisters: Mrs. Lucile Jape; Mrs. Emily Russell; and Mrs. Marion Garrigan, all of Menasha; five grandchildren: Paul, Michele, and Eric Verhagen, Appleton; Kurt and his wife, Sherril Frieders, Nekoosa; Mark Frieders, Stoughton. Mrs. Frieders was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and two sisters: Adella Schneider; Marcella Casperson. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 4, 1989 at 10:15 at the Laemmrich Funeral Home, Menasha, and at 11 a.m. at St. Bernards Catholic Church, Appleton, with Rev. Orville Janssen officiating. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Menasha. Friends may call at the Laemmrich Funeral Home Friday evening from 4 to 9 p.m. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
