Rites Held At Lastrup For Bernard Athmann

Bernard Athmann passed away at his farm home, one and one half miles south of Lastrup, at 2 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, after a lingering illness of about three years.

Born at Spring Hill, Stearns county, July 26, 1887, Mr. Athmann was 64 years old at the time of his death.

His marriage to Katherine Ellering took place at Meire Grove on June 11, 1912. His life was devoted to farming, the past 39 years of which were spent in the Lastrup vicinity.

Besides his wife, twelve children survive. They are Mrs. Herbet Fischer (Irene), Lastrup; Norbert, Hillman; Mrs. Emil Banach (Marie), Pierz; Irwin, Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. Oscar Branson (Evelyn), Minneapolis; Mrs. Raymond Loidolt (Bernadine), Pierz, and Coelestin, Virgil, Alex, Edward, Alice and Bernard at home. Victor died in infancy.

Only one member of the family, Irwin, of the state of Washington, was unable to attend the rites.

Among the surviving brothers and sisters are Mr. Chry. Athmann, Melrose, Minn.; Mr. Martin Athmann, and Mrs. Henry Primus, Sauk Centre, Minn.; Mr. Albert Athmann, Cold Spring, Minn.; Mr. Leonard Athmann, St. Cloud, Minn.; Mr. Al Athmann, Belgrade, Minn.; and Mrs. Frank Stang, St. Martin, Minn. A sister Mrs. John Thomas of Paynesville, Minn., has passed away.

There are thirteen grandchildren.

A Solemn Requiem High Mass was offered at the funeral services at St. John's Nepomuk church, Lastrup, Saturday morning, November 17th, at ten. Celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Wilfred Birk, with Father Benedcict Virnig, Sauk Rapids assisting as deacon, and Father Kroll of Harding, as sub-deacon. Interment was made in the Lastrup cemetery.

Six sons served as pallbearers, Norbert, Coelestin, Virgil, Alex, Edward, and Bernard. Honorary pallbearers were Messrs. John Loidolt, Gerhard Block, Peter Weiss, Ralph Britz, Alvin Fischer, and Raymond Fischer.
