This obituary was published in the Mexico Weekly Ledger, Mexico. MO, Feb. 19, 1925.

"Eli P. Wagner, 71, died on the farm of his son-in-law seven miles northeast of Mexico about eight o-'clock Monday night. He had been suffering for a year. Mr. Wagner had come to Audrain County to be with his daughter three years ago. He was a native of Smith [sic] County, Virginia, where he had lived almost his entire life. Mr Wagner is survived, besides his wife, Rachel Wagner, by the following seven children: Jacob Wagner of near Mexico, Emery Wagner of Hanley Falls, Minn., Leo Wagner of California, Mrs. Clint [Mary] Troutman of Wayne, Neb., Mrs. Dallas [Amanda] Orr of Winneberg, Neb., Mrs Rosco [Ida] Mitchell of Garden, Minn., Mrs. Herbert [Alice] Ellington of Audrain County.

Mr. Wagner was a splendid Christian gentleman. He had joined the Methodist church when a young man and had made a number of acquaintances in this part of the country since his arrival here. No definite funeral arrangements have yet been made. They are to be announced later according to his son. The Ledger joins the many friends of the family in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved."
