Eva[sic] (Sorriole)[sic] was born Feb. 11, 1855, in Huntington county, Penna., and died March 20, 1946 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Sommers of Mayetta, Kansas, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was the eldest of 12 children of whom six survive. At the age of 12 she united with the Reformed church and was a faithful follower of Christ throughout her entire life.
On August 24, 1873, she was united in marriage to Emanuel B. Acker, and to this union were born four children, Mrs. Emma Ellen Sommers, Mayetta, Harvey M. Acker, Lancaster, Calif.; Calvin Acker, Reynolds, Ill., and Mrs. Lillie Elizabeth Simmons, who preceded her in death, April 25, 1942.
In 1880 they planned to move to Kansas, but her husband was stricken with pneumonia and died in March, leaving her with the four children, the eldest 6 years and the youngest 4 months of age. Three years later, she and the children came to Kansas to her parents in Nemaha county, later moving to Holton. On coming to Holton she kept house for her brother, Reuben for six years and later cared for her aged parents until their death, then she kept house for another brother and sister until she was stricken more than a year ago.
She suffered a paralytic stroke on Feb. 8, 1945, and was taken to the Sommers home, where she was tenderly cared for until the time of her death.
Surviving are her three children, three brothers, William Garner, Piedmont, Kan.; Harry Garner, Holton; Elmer Garner, Weiser, Ida.; and three sisters, Jane Satterfield, Lizzie Garner, Holton, and Alice Schirmer, Boise, Ida.; 14 grandchildren, 26 greatgrand children and one great great grand child, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Gabel & McAsey Mortuary on the afternoon of March 23, by the Rev. Thomas J Miller, pastor of the Holton Evangelical church. Rev. and Mrs. Miller sang "Rock of Ages" and "Those Golden Bells." Burial was made in the Holton cemetery.
