Rites Scheduled For Houghton, 73

BIRCH RIVER (RNS) - Earl Houghton, 73, of Birch River died Sunday morning in a Summersville hospital after long illness.

He was a son of the late Homer and Louiana Henderson Houghton.

Born at Strange Creek, Feb 1, 1900, he was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church at Strange Creek and the United Mine Workers of America.

Houghton was a retired farmer and coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Ottie DeMoss Houghton; two sons, Bobby Gene of Birch River and James Earl of Little Birch; four daughters, Mrs. Nina Propst of Richwood, Mrs. Ina Mae Harris of Sutton; Mrs. Anna Lea Champman of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Olive Bragg of Summersville; five brothers,Charles of Charleston, Ernest of Summersville, Minter of Toledo, Ohio, and Flem and Virgil, both of Strange Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Vina Dean of Quinwood and Mrs. Alice Goad of Strange Creek; 31 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Wine and Rev. Landon Stanley in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body is at Waters Funeral Home in Summersville where friends may call after 4 p.m. today and will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral.
