Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Byington, Tenn, he was the son of Samuel L. Boyd, Sr. and Mahala W. (Ridings) Boyd. He married Eva D. (Mollenkopf) Boyd and she preceded him in death in 1994. He was a machinist for Diester Machine and Kunkle Valve Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Nila (William) Seidel of Fort Wayne; sister Betty Swartz of Fort Wayne; six step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill "Buddy" Boyd; a half brother, Gerald Byrd; sisters, Anna Mae Gerber, Charldean Douglas, and Frances Winebrenner. Funeral service is 1 P.M. Monday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday. The Rev. Norm Conklin officiating. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
