A native of New Rochelle, New York, he played at the guard position for two seasons (1955 to 1957) in the National Basketball Association with the Philadelphia Warriors and Syracuse Nationals. He was a member of the 1955-1956 NBA Championship Warriors team and recorded 2 assists, while appearing in 3 games during the post season. During his collegiate years at Villanova University, he achieved All-American status and became one of the top scorers in Wildcats history. Hennessy was selected by the Warriors during the 1953 NBA Draft and appeared in 74 career regular season games. After retiring as a player, he became a high school basketball coach.
